- Design: a pilot open-label study. 296 children and adults with autism were enrolled, 170 completed, and 123 age-matched neurotypical people served as a baseline comparison group. Participants took precision synbiotics for 3 months, with deep metagenomic sequencing and symptom surveys before and after.
- Published findings: at baseline the autism group had lower microbial diversity, more potential pathogens (Shigella, Klebsiella, Clostridium) and less Faecalibacterium. After 3 months, diversity went up, GI discomfort dropped significantly, and participants reported improvements in language, comprehension, cognition, thinking and speech.

- Design: metagenomic sequencing of stool from 490 people with IBS (all dominant subtypes) and 122 people without IBS. 134 people with IBS were then followed over time on daily synbiotics, each with a composition that varied by participant.
- Published findings: the IBS group had lower diversity, more Gram-negative bacteria, and fewer pathways for short-chain fatty acid and vitamin synthesis. Shigella was associated with IBS, while *Eubacterium rectale* and *Faecalibacterium prausnitzii* were associated with healthy controls. Each IBS subtype had its own microbial features. With supplementation, probiotic abundance rose and microbial features shifted.
